Happy Thanksgiving! (if you get this in your email then Happy Day After Thanksgiving!) I’m so thankful for you! Did you know that? Seriously. Artists can’t create in a bubble–knowing people support you and your work, well its just a blessing.
Wanna come over? Let’s play like you’re here! I want to show you what’s going on!
I drew this (above) last night while we all watched Tangled. Love that movie! We had homemade salad bar night in anticipation of today. We roasted chestnuts too! But you know they were so hard to get the skin off, so we googled it and it turns out there’s a gazillion different variations on roasting, boiling first, steaming after, etc. Any suggestions?
I made a pumpkin pie last night (and the girls made the cornbread for the stuffing). I did the pecan pie this morning, and the cranberries are bubbling gently on the stove right now.
Hubby takes care of the turkey + stuffing, I do pies and cranberries, the girls each take a side dish…and Ava sleeps (and licks the floor a lot.)
We are having a very low key day here. All just hanging out doing our thing. With the girls being older now its nice to just have a day of relaxing. Za is playing around on her guitar, Bella is drawing, hubby rode his bike in the basement this morning and now he’s working on the stuffing. We are so thankful to be home! (To have a home, AND a meal!!) Speaking of thankfulness…. I shared this pic below on Instagram this week–a card from my beloved website guru and friend Darice, and a little love note I found hidden in my ink drawer from my dear friend Colleen.I got this Robert Frost poem from another friend that I adore–she texted it to me, knowing how I have struggled with fall and winter over the years. Another cherished friend sent me an article on surrender and the spiritual gifts of autumn.
Isn’t that poem beautiful? I’ve learned so much about thoughtfulness and selflessness from my friends (not to mention my parents and hubby.) I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again–I’m incredibly thank FULL for my family AND my friends.
and drawing a lot too–I mean drawing bears is just so much fun
I plan to paint our family christmas card early tomorrow morning. I sketched out my basic idea a few days ago-below. (I was playing with ideas–so the hands are 2 and 1 because we celebrate our 21st wedding anniversary in January!)
Do you send out cards? I created an illustration last year and then uploaded it & ordered our cards from Moo.com –they really turned out nice. I still love getting and giving Christmas cards. Don’t you?
Did you know it snowed here yesterday? I ignored it totally and painted instead (I made a video!)
I might do this in a little bit….(my daughter snapped this pic recently)
and tonight we are heading out to see Big Hero 6. Have you seen it? For the past 3 or 4 years we’ve gone to the movies on Thanksgiving night. I love this tradition! There are usually a few good family movies this time of year. I’d kinda like to see The Theory Of Everything too (another day soon!).
Oh– I also wanted to tell you about a couple of tv shows I’ve been listening to while painting in case you don’t want to watch football later. I LOVED Call the Midwife (its on Netflix) and also The Bletchley Circle. (Akin pointed out that all the men on The Bletchley Circle are bumbling idiots. Its true-its a little bit of a feminist-fest, but the show’s pretty good anyway). If you like Damian Lewis from Homeland then you will probably like The Forsyte Saga (also on Netflix). Its a little bit more soap-opera-ish than Downton, but still it was pretty good. Of course I think one of the best things about it are the costumes and I didn’t get to see them because I was just listening to it. I go back and forth between Padora, netflix, and podcasts–and even a few books on tape. (But I can only listen while I’m painting and drawing, not when I’m working on the computer.)
well–time for me to sign off and set the table! Happy Thanksgiving! Wishing you many blessings today and every day xoxo
UPDATE:: just got home from the movie and Big Hero 6 was SO good! You should definitely see it! The animation was insane. xo
