The Lion and the Lamb

When I got a call last spring from Sherri Blum, (celebrity!) nursery designer,  asking if I could create some special nursery art inspired by the scripture about the lion and lamb I was ecstatic!!  I was also incredibly nervous!! I love painting animals, but I always look at a TON of reference images.  I think you can only imagine that there aren’t many photos of lion and lambs nestled together cuddling.
This was for a very special nursery she explained “ Mom-to-be did not want to know her baby’s gender, but wanted an over the top nursery ready and waiting for her to bring baby home. We designed two complete nurseries together. The OBGYN sent me a sealed envelope revealing baby’s gender to only me so I could complete the nursery behind locked doors!”  How FUN!
I started by looking at a zillion pics of sleeping lions, and proud lions, and sweet lions….you get the idea…and then I did the same with lambs.  (On a side note here, if you google images of “lamb” you get pics of hunks of meat and gyros…sprinkled in with those images of cute cuddly little things with those adorable swishy tails. You’ve been warned)
Anyway I am thrilled to finally show YOU, dear reader, the art and some quick shots of the room as well. Sherri is a mighty talented designer-the room is beautiful!
AND–que the trumpets-this collection of paintings will be available as giclees, produced by Dish and Spoon Productions!
Here’s where I started-a quick sketch~ I wanted the lion to be sleeping and I wanted the lamb to look peaceful….not scared.
Here it is in the room~ don’t you love that border??
Sherri asked me to mimc the curves and lines of the dresser (Bratt decor)  in the borders of the three pieces
which I did with light brushy swirls using iridescent paint~
I wanted this guy to be proud-but not intimidating.  And I wanted him to be looking toward the main piece in the middle.  The eyes are so important.
Here’s the sweet lamb
I wanted to give her fur a little texture~
What a thrill to be a part of this nursery and its big reveal!
In that day the wolf and the lamb will live together; the leopard will lie down with the baby goat. The calf and the yearling will be safe with the lion, and a little child will lead them all. Isaiah 11:6

IF-Shiny

Illustration Friday word of the week is shiny.  How about some big red shiny rubies?

Hmmm?  why yes, they are DIVINE DAHHHLING

I love this painting with all of its bright colors and bold brushstrokes. Pink, red and orange!

This was the inspiration for the piece-I googled “vintage diamond bracelets” & looked at oodles of gorgeous pieces.  I picked the one I would actually love wearing. But who wouldn’t?

And look-it gets even more shiny after Dish and Spoon Productions takes it & blings it out

Isn’t that cool?  I love the way they jazzed it up with Swarovski crystals!

Its one of a collection-all girly, all red & black & tan, all sophisticated, & so sweet.

Nursery Art

I love creating art for nurseries! The excitement and anticipation of waiting for a new little one is so fun. I remember when I was planning my own daughter’s nurseries–I would tear out pictures from magazines, gather swatches of fabric, and read anything I could get my hands on for inspiration. I hunted far and wide for the most unique accessories and unusual accents.  I gathered lots of vintage and thrift pieces to play off of the new. In fact, the very first thing I did when I found out we were expecting was buy a lamp for the nursery! I’ll always cherish the memories of creating that special place. (I should dig out some of those photos to share! Their nurseries and their rooms now-how fun would that be?!)

And now, even though my own babies aren’t so much babies anymore, I still get to have fun with nurseries by creating special art designed just for those very important spaces.  I’m so honored to have my work on the home page of Dish and Spoon Productions right now!  (Look at that teeny tiny little thing–doesn’t that make you just want to snuggle up?!)

And I’ve been working with top nursery designer, Sherri Blum of Jack & Jill Interiors (celebrity nursery designer!!), to create some extra special pieces for an upcoming project.  (I can’t show you those now silly–its top secret!) but I CAN show you another very special project she’s working on featuring my art, produced by Dish & Spoon. We’ll be meeting up at the end of the month to add some hand painted details to the room as well-so I’ll be sure to post some pics of the final room put together.  Read all about the client’s story and the design process over on Sherri’s blog-she is lovely lady and incredibly talented designer. I’m so excited to get to work with her!

Check out my work! All custom made in the USA, Dish & Spoon creates unique quality art for children’s rooms. I am *over the moon* to have my artwork produced by this company! (And would you just look at that baby? Ohmygoodness-adorable!) I love this collection with bling-ed out canvases in red and black and khaki. Sophisticated but fun~

Want to purchase some of these pieces for your nursery but you don’t have a nursery designer? Well, that’s ok! You can buy some of them at Baby Oliver!

The little details they had make it oh so special too~check out that bling!
