Don’t grip the pencil with an iron fist.
Trust the process. Relax your shoulders.
Know when to stop-when its done-don’t kill the painting!
Breathe. Let the movement flow.
Withhold judgment. Have fun!!
All these thoughts are going through my mind when I’m trying to loosen up. The more I do quick 3-5 second sketches the better I get at staying loose. But somewhere between the sketch and the painting I can, on occasion, overwork the image. And that really sucks the life out of it. Which is why I’m taking an online class next week taught by Katie Rodgers of Paperfashion fame. I love her work and her blog. She draws and paints loose.
I did a few loose sketches while watching the red carpet for the Oscars. The Oscars (& the Golden Globes) at my house involves girlfriends, champagne, chocolate, and our pj’s.
George Clooney’s girlfriend…loved her little side do~
Katie’s class is offered on SkillShare. Its a 2 week online class and it only cost $20. Skillshare has some amazing classes offered–many that look right up my alley. Check it out and see if something sparks your fancy. And stay loose man.
