I want to tell you a secret.
I have a fantasy.
Of driving across country with a camper.
Is that weird?
Sometimes when I’m in need of a little daydreaming I look at them on Craigslist and Ebay. Imagining us camping in national parks, with our bikes, and our little chairs, and twinkle lights. We must. have. twinkly lights. We’ll have fishing poles, and camp fires, and martinis under the stars. We’ll kidnap our kiddos from all their devises and hike and picnic and breathe fresh air. We’ll see things we’ve only read about. (We have actually toyed with this idea-driving across country on a 3 week adventure. It could happen. hopefully??)
Now tell me–that sounds fun, doesn’t it?
For now, the closest I’m going to get to that fantasy is painting the little campers.
I had so much fun doing these collage pieces I am definitely going to do more. It was like playing with a doll house. I painted the cacti, the flags, and the twinkle lights, then cut them out with an xacto knife and added them using thread and glue.
I am trying to figure out the best method for reproducing them. I want to retain the 3-D shadows that give it so much depth. The scanner kind of flattened everything out. As soon as I get the kinks worked out these will be in my shop. I will also have the originals and the prints with me in November at the AOY Handcrafted Gift Show. (A framed print of each-Pink Shasta & Airstream Bambi-will also be in the upcoming Harvest Night Chance Auction hosted by the AOY on Septmeber 22-so if you’re local come on down and see if you can get ‘em! Its for a good cause– our community art center.)
And you know they will become embroidery patterns too!
Have you seen this movie? It is one of my all time very favorites!! Lucille Ball & Desi Arnaz-perfection!!
